I know that every year at about this time I tell a similar version of the same story. And I guess this year is no different, because the story doesn’t change, and I want to tell it.
I published Come Away With Me three years ago this week, and on Tuesday I will release my Eighteenth title.
It’s been a crazy ride. An amazing one.
I remember the day I hit publish on Luke and Nat’s story, I took a deep breath and crossed my fingers and prayed that just a few people that I wasn’t related to would read it. Just a couple. When it sold about three-hundred copies on release day, I jumped up and down and released the breath I’d been holding.
The thing that simply takes my breath away now is, that single book has been downloaded more than a million times.
Now, it’s been free since I released Tied With Me in early 2014, so many of those million were readers who saw it for free and took a chance on it. Many probably didn’t read it. But others did.
I am stunned, every release day, by the outpouring of love and excitement by my readers. It amazes me that so many of you stay up all night to read, and then in the morning you leave me messages to tell me how much you enjoyed the story and that you already can’t wait for the next one. You make this artist’s heart smile, and I’ll admit that there’s a little pressure there as well. But I love it. It’s a great source of drive for me, to keep writing, to keep making you swoon and laugh and sigh as you reach The End.
I cherish and revel at the friendships made over the past few years. There are so many readers, bloggers, authors and other industry peers that I admire that I’m blessed to call my friends.
I’m here to stay, through thick and thin, highs and lows, and all of the challenges that this industry brings. I love it. It sings through my veins and gives me a high that nothing else can even compare to. Writing and publishing is my passion, and I’ll be doing it even when I’m old and my fingers have to struggle to type the words. Because I’ll still be stubborn and refuse to use the talk-to-text software. I can’t do it, it messes with my mojo.
The point of all of this is to say thank you for taking this journey with me. Thanks for reading, and for encouraging me so much. Your uplifting words far outweigh those of the haters.
As a special thank you, I have a surprise later in the month. Be sure to keep an eye open for it! And, if you’re so inclined, I hope you enjoy my eighteenth novel, EASY MELODY, releasing on Tuesday! You can preorder it here:
